1. Tuscora Park’s New Inclusive Playground

Tuscora Park sits along the canal just a few minutes from downtown Dover in neighboring New Philadelphia, and it’s home to the area’s biggest playground update in years.

A new inclusive playground center opened there over Memorial Day weekend in 2026, built with sensory-friendly equipment, a musical garden, and handicap-accessible play structures so kids of every ability can play side by side.

The new playground sits right next to the park’s vintage train and roller coaster, so little ones can watch the rides go by while enjoying the stimulation-free zones. The playground also includes a splash pad for those especially hot summer days.

Once the kids have worn themselves out, the rest of Tuscora Park is worth sticking around for. There are three swimming pools, outdoor basketball courts, and miniature golf, complete with a vintage theme park with rides like chair swings and a carousel that dates back to 1928. All of this is set against the park’s shaded, rolling hillside.

Be sure to check the current operating hours because pools, splash pads, and rides are seasonal.

2. Dover City Park

Dover City Park is the most complete family attraction right in town. The playground itself is fully accessible, with three different play structures, two separate swing sets, and a section of kid-friendly exercise equipment.

It’s a great pick for families who want more than just a playground in one stop. For those looking to break up playtime with a leisurely walk, the paved trails are also a great option for strollers.

Beyond the play structures, Dover Park features walking trails, a disc golf course, sports fields, tennis and basketball courts, and the Dover City Pool for warm-weather days.

There’s no need to hassle with street parking here, as there’s an on-site parking lot for visitors. Pack a picnic and make an afternoon of it, and discover why kids of every age return to Dover Park.

3. Indoor Space at NewPointe Church

Over in North Canton, near the popular Pro Football Hall of Fame, NewPointe Church’s campus has one of the more imaginative kids’ spaces in town, built by Whacky World Studios as part of its children’s ministry environment.

The indoor, California forest-themed play area includes a large climbing wall structure with slides, a fallen-log slide for younger ones, and a rustic bridge connecting different play zones, plus a quieter campfire and picnic corner for children who need a break from the action.

Since this play space is part of NewPointe Church’s kids’ ministry, it’s set up for families attending service rather than as a general public playground. However, if you’re in town over the weekend, the play area is open to the public on Sundays during service.

4. Canal Dover Park

For those looking to get away from the crowds at busy playgrounds, Canal Dover Park is an excellent option for strolling along the river and enjoying the canal’s peaceful atmosphere.

Canal Dover Park is located on the Tuscarawas River, which is typically used for fishing boats and kayak access, but along Canal Road, it winds a paved scenic path beside the water. It’s especially enjoyable in the early mornings and at sunset.

The park also offers wheelchair access, picnic bench pavilions, and large grassy areas perfect for a game of catch or other activities.

5. A Vacation Rental with Outdoor Space to Play

  • Location: Dover and New Philadelphia
  • Best for: Families who want built-in play space at home base
  • Cost: Varies by property

Sometimes the best playground is the one right outside your door. Several of our rental homes come with a private swimming pool, giving kids a place to splash around without ever leaving the yard.

Others give guests access to a swimming pond, a unique way to cool off and a good change of pace for kids who love the idea of swimming somewhere a little wilder than a standard pool.

Either option gives families room to spread out in between park visits, especially on days when you want a slower pace without swings and sports. A rental with a full kitchen also makes it easy to pack a picnic lunch for whichever park is next on the list.
